Wabeek Oaks is an upscale condominium community located in Bloomfield Township. Our owners enjoy beautiful landscaping, efficient grounds maintenance, and excellent professional management.
Wabeek Oaks is one of the sixteen condominium communities and fourteen single family subdivisions built on what was formerly the summer home (Wabeek) of U.S. Senator James Couzens. Couzens was one of the original investors and officers of Ford Motor Company. Following his departure from Ford he was President of the Bank of Detroit, until being elected Mayor of Detroit in 1919. He served as Mayor until appointed to the U.S. Senate to fill an unexpired term in 1922. He successfully ran for the office and served until his death in 1936. His summer mansion can still be seen on the northern shore of Wabeek Lake.
The prime location of the Couzens estate, which includes Wabeek Lake and tracts of land on both the north and south sides of what is now Long Lake Road, made it attractive to developers who eventually re-platted the land into single family developments. The final parcel was recently sold by the Bloomfield Hills School District and will be developed as a high end single family residential subdivision. Wabeek Oaks was developed by Chrysler Corporation in the early 1970’s, at the time when land development was part of their corporate portfolio.
